John Petrucci is a legend in the guitar world. As the lead guitarist for iconic progressive metal band Dream Theatre he established himself as one of the great modern players, widely respected for his variety of skills and techniques, notably his high-speed alternate picking and also his tendency to shift from the faster riffing to a more slower and melodic style with consumate ease. He frequently uses a seven-string guitar, another less common trait, and credits it for his ability to write songs due to it's lower ranges and exceptional tonal versatility.
As well as for his exceptional guitar playing he is a high respected composer, vocalist, lyricist and producer. His résumé reads impressively, with featured spots as a guest guitarist for established acts such as G3 alongside fellow shredders Steve Vai and Joe Satriani, Liquid Tension Experiment, Periphery and many others. He was named as one of the "Top 10 Greatest Guitar Shredders of All Time" by GuitarOne magazine in 2008, and in 2012 Petrucci was ranked the 17th greatest guitarist of all time by a Guitar World magazine reader's poll, high praise indeed and thoroughly deserved.
In this video John talks us through his 10th Anniversary JPX, the latest of one of Music Mans most popular and revered models.
